Child Protection Conferences

A Child Protection Conference is held when there are serious concerns that you may be coming to harm because of the way you are being looked after by your family. It is a meeting between parents and professionals (people like doctors, health visitors, teachers and social workers) who know about you and your family.

If you are old enough to understand what is going on, you will be invited to the conference. You may bring someone with you to support you.

The person in charge of the conference is known as the Chair of the Child Protection conference. It is their job to make sure that everyone has a chance to speak and focuses on your care and safety.

The conference will decide how best to help and protect you. They might agree a Child Protection Plan – this means working out and writing down what each of the people at the conference, including your family, needs to do to help protect you from harm.

If you would like to know more about Child Protection Conferences you can call the Children Social Care on 0207 926 5555 and ask to speak to someone about it. Or Childline on 0800 1111.
